I know weekly reading updates are usually reserved for YouTube but I’ve always liked watching them and keeping up with people. And I’ve yet to reach the confidence of doing BookTube though I’d like to get there eventually.
Saying all that, I’ll be posting weekly updates on Sundays about my reading, plans, maybe even life updates if anything happens. They’ll usually be pretty short but since this is the first, it’ll be a little longer than what I’m expecting.
I’ve got these updates saved in my drafts for me to update through the week, so even if I’m at work I can quickly upload these posts on my break.
I was looking at my notes and realised that as much as I’ve been saying I don’t want to do too much this year, I have quite a few plans for my reading. There’s so many things I want to do and share with you guys, but I’ll do a separate post about the challenges I have planned. Over all though I only have 2 goals for 2024.
First, to stop myself from burning out, I’ve set a goal of 10 pages a day. Over the years I’ve noticed I struggle more and more with actually picking books up. Once I do and I’m actually reading I’m fine. So this goal is to encourage me to pick up a book everyday.
My second is small and manageable monthly TBR’s. I’m a mood reader, but I do have certain challenges and book club picks I have to get to. So I plan to double up on prompts where I can.

I finished The Paris Apartment. The review is up and ready for you guys to read. My copy of the book is now with my mum waiting for her to pick it up. She’s a speed reader so I know she’ll fly through it. I’ll add what she thinks of the book in one of my updates.
When I finished I put 2 books up in front of my family and asked them to pick my next read. Both were ones I chose for the #24in24challenge on Bookstagram. Yellowface beat out Practical Magic, 2-1.
It is Wednesday evening and it’s my last day off this week so my reading will definitely slow down. I’m hoping I can finish Yellowface this week and start First Lie Wins. So I don’t spend hours staring at my books crying I have nothing to read, I’ve picked out my next few reads and piled them next to my bed so I can just grab whatever I’m feeling next. Unfortunately a lot of my coming shifts are back to back lates and overnights. My reading will definitely be at a minimum and I’ll probably only update this once before posting. If it is illegible ranting, I’m sorry, I blame the exhaustion.
Final addition to this post since work has absolutely drained me. It’s been difficult trying to find time to read. My place of work gives us a 45 minute break, but because of my health problems, I split mine into 20 and 25. This means I use my 20 minutes to make sure I eat and the 25 to read. So maybe 1 chapter and I have to close the book and go back to work.
If anyone reading this has written a review on GoodReads or their own blog for Yellowface please comment it, send it me, anything. I’m struggling to write one. I can’t seem to put into words what I thought of this book. And I desperately want to do the book justice. Maybe it’s something I need to talk out with someone. I have my notes but reading them back isn’t helping.
